On the age of instant digital communications, the neighborhood watch is becoming an ancient form of crime prevention. Police agencies and community groups are turning to new methods available right at their fingertips, tv5's Meg McLeod is at the social media death tell us how a smartphone is one of the best tools and fighting crime.

This works for mobile devices and with the popularity of social media, all-time high police agencies across the country are taking advantage and they're using it to fight crime, and that's where the app next door comes in.

It's a private social network just for your neighborhood, it's like a mini Facebook that lets you connect with the people who live around you, you can find a last-minute babysitter, learn about an upcoming block party or you can even be warned about AB rash of break-ins on your street.

More and more police agencies are joining this network allowing them to better connect with the communities they serve, police can answer residents questions issue, crime alerts, and even create a virtual neighborhood crime watch. Grand Blanc Township police joined next door last month becoming the 2,000 agency nationwide to become a member.

Officer Tim DT says they learned about next door from residents who were already using it, we found out was they're actually pretty good at communicating amongst themselves, and I'll just allow us to join their conversation than to disseminate information, easy and efficient manner to basically anyone we choose.
